OFSAA Swimming ChampionshipsBy Mr. Knowlton 2005-03-22
The CtK Jaguar Swim Team recently attended the OFSAA Swimming Championships at the Etobicoke Olympium in Toronto. A total of nine swimmers competed at the championship setting a CtK record for the number of athletes competing at an OFSAA championship. This is no surprise for such a talented team that boasts 51 swimmers and that finished 4th overall at G.H.A.C. – one of the toughest and most competitive regions for a swim team to compete in. Not bad for a new team in its second year. Those who competed at OFSAA gave their best performance of the year resulting in 6 finishing in the top 16 including the Junior boys medley relay team of Ben Carter, Kevin King, Mike Rowan and Rory Gaskill-Cadwallader, and Kim Galvin in the 200 Freestyle Open category. Jessica Switzer also gave a star performance as she finished 10th overall in the 100m Breaststroke Open category – an amazing accomplishment since returning to swimming after a 5 month absence. Geordan Gaskill-Cadwallder had two amazing races in the 100m Freestyle and made a personal best time of 1:01.93. Geordan finished 16th overall, well done Geordan! Janelle Trant competed hard at the 50m Fly but just missed making the consolation finals. Two of the team’s fastest swimmers – Rory Gaskill-Cadwallader and the teams captain Lee Ann Bruce – both made finals. Rory finished 7th overall in the Province in the 50m Freestyle while also finishing 13th overall in the 50m Backstroke and Lee Ann finished 7th overall with a personal best of 1:15.89 in the 100m Backstroke and 13th overall in the 100m I.M. category. It was an unbelievable performance from a team that continues to put Christ the King Catholic S. S. on the map as one of the fastest growing and talented Varsity swim clubs in the Region. On behalf of myself and Mrs. Cheal we want to congratulate the Jags swim team for an awesome record breaking season! The whole community looks forward to seeing the Jags Swim Team take another major step forward next season as we’ll have a very talented and competitive senior team along with an emerging junior team.
Congratulations to all the swimmers for a super season, we’re all very proud of you. See you in the pool next season. |
