Halton Youth Leadership SymposiumBy Ms. Continenza 2005-04-25
What are the qualities of great student leaders? How do you promote school spirit? How do you “accentuate the positive” and “eliminate the negative”? The five CtK students who attended the Halton Youth Leadership Symposium would be able to tell you since these were the hot topics of discussion at the symposium. Just ask Samantha Hawkins, Allison Hill, Michael Thibodeau, Jadon Veldman, and Miko Uy. They brought back excellent ideas on fostering positive youth interactions, both within and outside of the school setting. Many thanks to Anthony Luna who, in his role as student trustee, had a large role in organizing and leading the event. The turnout was 100 students from all over Halton, from 6 Catholic schools and 10 public schools. The participants had lots of fun (you wouldn’t believe what Ms. Continenza, the teacher supervisor who accompanied the students) saw them doing! Ask them about the “Simon Says” game. Leadership is serious business but it can also be lots of fun, hence all the interesting and amusing presenters, and the relevant workshops and the ever-present networking among student leaders all over Halton. It was a great symposium and many students will profit from the things they learned.
